LEGO Announces a PlayStation 1 Set: Release Date, Price, and All the Details
07.09.2026
Sony and LEGO have officially revealed the LEGO PlayStation 1 (72306) — a 1:1-scale replica of the iconic gray console from 1994, complete with a working disc drive and hidden dioramas inside.

Sony and LEGO have officially unveiled a new collectible set for retro gaming fans — the LEGO PlayStation 1 (72306). The announcement was made during a State of Play presentation, Sony's regular showcase for gaming and hardware news. The classic gray console from 1994 is back as a highly detailed model, joining the lineup of LEGO sets designed for adult builders.
This isn't LEGO's first venture into gaming consoles. The company has previously released sets based on the Nintendo NES and Atari 2600, both of which sold out among collectors. The PlayStation is a natural addition to this lineup: Sony's first console became one of the most iconic in the history of the industry and defined an entire era of home gaming.
Features and Build Details
The set contains 1,911 pieces and recreates the original console at a 1:1 scale. The assembled model measures 26 cm wide, 19 cm deep, and 6 cm tall. This is a display piece for your shelf, not a quick weekend build — the assembled PlayStation takes up the same space as the real console and is designed for experienced builders.
The designers have faithfully recreated the recognizable gray PS1 body, complete with ports, buttons, and the texture of the original. The set also includes a buildable replica of the very first PlayStation controller — specifically the first-revision gamepad with a D-pad and face buttons but no analog sticks, to stay true to the mid-nineties aesthetic.

Hidden Easter Eggs Inside the Console
The standout feature of the set is the interactive disc drive. Press the Open button and the drive lid flips up, revealing a secret compartment. Instead of a regular CD, two micro-dioramas are hidden inside, each referencing a legendary PS1 exclusive.
The first scene pays tribute to Gran Turismo, the racing simulator that set the standard for driving games for years to come. The second references Ape Escape, the platformer about catching monkeys. Both titles rank among the most iconic releases of the original PlayStation era, and LEGO's choice of these two is no coincidence.
Fans online have already spotted a fun historical irony. Ape Escape was the first game that couldn't be completed without a DualShock controller with two analog sticks — the entire gameplay was built around them. Yet the set includes a first-revision gamepad with no sticks at all. Fans feel this detail only makes the set more interesting to talk about and adds to its collectible charm.
Release Date and Price
The set launches on October 1, 2026 for LEGO Insiders members and on October 4 for everyone else. This two-stage rollout is standard practice for LEGO's major collectible sets: club members get early access, while everyone else joins a few days later.
The set will be available at LEGO Store locations and on the official LEGO website. The recommended retail price in the US is $179.99. Large limited-edition sets at this level often disappear from shelves over time and tend to sell for more than their original price on the secondary market, making this one appealing to both collectors and those who keep an eye on notable releases.
