Meet our first heroine — Olesya from Moscow!

My name is Olesya, I’m 37, I live in Moscow, and my main job is accountant at a federal company. Office hours are 9 to 6, sometimes longer during quarter-end closing periods. I’m not looking for freedom from employment — my main job suits me: great team, stability, official salary and voluntary medical insurance.

For the last two years, though, I’ve had a side hustle that brings in 40-60 thousand RUB a month while taking just an hour and a half to two hours a day. I sell vitamins, supplements and sports nutrition from iHerb. I don’t invest a single ruble of my own money.

I started buying iHerb vitamins for myself and my family

I’ve been ordering from iHerb for about six years for myself — they really have the best vitamins whose effects you notice right away. For my daughter, ever since kindergarten age, I’ve bought Nordic Naturals Children’s DHA on my pediatrician friend’s advice and ChildLife multivitamins with berry flavor that she drinks without any fuss. For myself — Solgar Magnesium Citrate: after workouts my legs sometimes cramp and I have sleep issues; magnesium helps with both. I’ve taken California Gold Nutrition CollagenUP in courses. My husband goes to the gym, so I got him Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard whey protein, Now Sports Creatine Monohydrate and occasionally BCAA.

When iHerb left Russia I was lost for the first few weeks. The same products cost 2–3 times more in pharmacies, and after my friend’s counterfeit experience I didn’t trust marketplaces. I found Prostobox.com — just compared prices and conditions with other U.S. forwarders. I opened a Kazakh bank card and ordered my first package for myself. Then word-of-mouth kicked in. At work I let a colleague try my magnesium; she’d been complaining about insomnia. A week later she asked where to get the same thing. Then another colleague joined, two moms from my daughter’s class, a neighbor. By the end of six months I realized I was spending an hour a day on other people’s orders and making nothing from it. That’s when I added a markup.

What I buy on iHerb for my clients

iHerb vitamins and supplements — package shipped via Prostobox

My assortment grew naturally from products I use myself and trust. I don’t deal with exotic supplements I know nothing about, I don’t import sports pharmacology, and nothing that requires a prescription.

The main categories are:

Children’s vitamins and omega-3: Nordic Naturals, ChildLife, Garden of Life Kids. These sell especially well in autumn, before the school season and cold season.

Women’s complexes: magnesium in various forms, omega-3, Solgar for skin-hair-nails, B vitamins.

Sports supplements for my clients’ husbands and boyfriends: proteins, creatine, BCAA, pre-workouts from Optimum Nutrition, MusclePharm, Now Sports, Dymatize.

Average order per client is about 4–5 thousand RUB, but some reach 15–20 thousand when they stock up for the season or buy for the whole family.

How the process works

It’s very simple. I have a Kazakh card I use to pay for orders on iHerb. The delivery address is Prostobox’s U.S. warehouse, which you get for free after registration. The package arrives at the warehouse in a few days, gets repacked and forwarded to Russia. I can have everything sent to me and sort it for clients myself, or ship it straight to the client with no extra labels or my data on the box. I do both depending on order size.

Prostobox has a special iHerb promotion: packages up to 1 kg — $9.99, up to 3 kg — $29.90. Usually four or five Solgar or NOW jars fit in one kilogram. For bigger orders I take the 3 kg option — it’s more economical per kilo.

What I like most about Prostobox. First — automatic AI-powered customs declarations. For an accountant whose every minute is scheduled, it’s a lifesaver; before, filling those forms could take an entire evening. Second — direct shipment to the client in plain packaging: the client has no idea who I work with. Third — live, fast support.

Where I find clients for selling vitamins and supplements

My main channel is my Telegram channel. I started it about six months after launching when I realized explaining the effectiveness of every supplement to every client was taking too long. I post short reviews of what I’ve brought in, once a week I run a selection of discounted new arrivals, and I show unboxings. I currently have around 2,500 subscribers — colleagues, acquaintances, moms from my daughter’s school, their friends and acquaintances.

A couple of times I arranged cross-promotions with other small bloggers: I send them the products I need at my expense, they make a post and unboxing. The new subscribers aren’t random — they’re people genuinely interested in the specific products. Another share of clients comes from Avito: I have a modest listing “help buying on iHerb” and I get 2–3 new clients a month consistently.

Why I became an iHerb reseller

The iHerb side hustle covers three things for me. First — extra income; my husband and I are saving it for renovations. Second — I keep buying the products we actually use, except now those purchases pay for themselves and generate profit on top. Third — the nice feeling that I can earn money not only at the office. I have no plans to quit my main job; I like being an accountant. But I also like that the phone in my bag is now a small business that grows by itself.
